Think Pink October

September 30, 2019

October is breast cancer awareness month, and everyone pushes the pink ribbon. It’s nice to bring awareness to any form of cancer but why not push the pink in a more significant way.

Did you know there are foods that help prevent breast cancer as well as many other cancers? Did you know some of them are pinkish? Well, if you’re going to think pink this October then let’s do it all the way. Let’s not just wear the ribbon or the bracelets, let’s eat the foods as well.

Here are a few foods that are great for cancer prevention and why.

Apples with red and pinkish peels inhibit the growth of breast cancer. This is due to the anthocyanins and quercetin that these apples consist of.

Beets, especially the extract of the red beetroot, has proven to aid in suppressing multi-organ tumors in lab tests. It’s now being considered to combine them with traditional anti-cancer drugs in order to reduce the toxic side effects.

Carrots are full of beta carotene and the red and purple heirloom carrots have extra antioxidant power.

Grapes are rich in antioxidants, especially the red, and they will give you the same cancer-fighting component as a glass of wine but without the alcohol. Now, that’s a win-win.

Pomegranates prevent breast cancer by blocking the enzyme (aromatase) which converts androgen into estrogen.

Radishes are high in antioxidants and have been shown to reduce the spread of breast cancer cells. Japanese radish sprouts have been found to significantly lower the incidence of mammary tumors.

Red cabbage has a compound called indole-3-carbinol and is currently being researched for its potential to reduce the incidence of breast cancer significantly.

Sweet potatoes whether the pinkish or purple are high in antioxidants and are known to reduce the risk of breast cancer by 25% when included in your regular diet. The extracts from the sweet potato reduce the existing breast cancer tumors and can hold back the growth of new ones.

Breast cancer awareness is important but it’s even more important to know what you can do to prevent it. There are so many natural and healthy ways to take control of your health. These are just a few of the many foods that offer prevention from cancer. So, wear that pink and eat your way to a healthier you.
