Many people don’t care for bleach, disinfectants or anti-bacterial cleaners for obvious reasons. So how do they manage to keep a clean home especially during cold and flu season? Believe it or not, you probably already have what you need in your home and it works just as good if not better and much safer to use.
These ingredients are hydrogen peroxide and vinegar. Cheap and most effective.
Here’s what to do:
First, spray the vinegar on your surface and don’t wipe off. Then, spray the hydrogen peroxide on the surface and don’t wipe off.
Here’s how it works:
The combination of vinegar and hydrogen peroxide forms peracetic acid, which is a powerhouse against salmonella, E. coli, and listeria.
I am not a fan of the vinegar scent, so I use citrus peels to add a natural fragrance to my vinegar. Here’s what I do:
In a zip lock bag I collect the peels and freeze them until I have enough to fill my container. Then once I have enough to fill my container, I pour the vinegar over the peels and store in a dark place for about 2-6 weeks. The longer you allow it to sit the stronger your citrus scent will be. Once it's strong enough for me, I strain and pour into a spray bottle.
Some hydrogen peroxide bottles are sold with a spray nozzle already. You can also put it in a separate sprayer but make sure to label it.
Do NOT mix the two ingredients in the same bottle. You also should not use this mixture on granite, marble or natural stone.
This is so much safer for your pets, children and even asthmatics. I have a bottle of the citrus cleaner in all my bathrooms, kitchen, office, play areas. I keep a separate bottle of hydrogen peroxide in the kitchen and bathrooms.
You can even add spices to your citrus cleaner to give it your own personal touch. Just make sure to strain it first to prevent clogging in your spray bottle.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
