Benefits of Rosewater
I really enjoy the smell of roses, it truly is a powerful mood enhancer for me. It helps calm any anxiety I have and is known for promoting emotional well-being.
TIP: Try a few drops of rosewater on your pillow or linens before going to bed, it will help you sleep better and you will wake up much more refreshed.
A common problem people with oily skin have is that most products dry their skin too much. Rosewater helps maintain the skin’s pH balance while controlling excess oil. It will help hydrate, revitalize and moisturize your skin giving it a refreshing look. This is due to the astringent like properties it has and therefore, cleans the pores and tones the skin. The anti-inflammatory properties help reduce the redness and is great at relieving you of acne, dermatitis, and eczema. It’s antibacterial properties aid in healing scars, cuts, and wounds.
TIP: Try applying rosewater after a good steam and you will notice how it tightens capillaries while reducing redness and blotchiness.
Rosewater has been used as an anti- aging ingredient for centuries. This is because the antioxidant properties of rosewater helps to strengthen skin cells and regenerate skin tissue, preventing fine lines and wrinkles.
TIP: Add some rosewater in a spritzer and mist your face every morning and evening. For oily skin, you may add a small amount of witch hazel to the rosewater instead of using alcohol based astringents.
Rosewater has also been known to enhance hair due to the nourishing and moisturizing properties it carries. No wonder it works well as a natural conditioner and revitalizes hair growth. It is great for treating mild scalp irritations and dandruff.
You can use rosewater in place of plain water when making your own hair rinse, soap, detergent, etc. Below are a few recipes I have used rosewater for:
Hair Perfume: In a 4oz. spritzer bottle mix 1 t. pure vanilla extract and fill the rest with rosewater. You can even add a few drops of essential oils with the vanilla extract and rosewater if you want to change it up.
Linen Freshener: Add rosewater in a spray mister and add a few drops of essential oil rose and/or lavender and spray on your sheets before bed time.
Skin Freshener: In a 4 oz. spray mister add rosewater and set in the fridge. Mist on your skin to cool and freshen up.
Make sure you use a dark colored bottle to protect the ingredients from light in order to keep it from breaking down and it will help it last longer.

You will need:
Organic rose petals (I have also used dried just make sure they are pesticide free.)
Large pot w/ lid
Place a brick in the center of the pot and put the bowl on top of the brick. Add 1 ½ c. dried rose petals or 4 -5 c. fresh petals around the brick. Pour water over the petals until it reaches just below the brick. Invert lid and cover pot. As the steam collects it will drip down to the center of the lid and into the bowl. Add the ice on top of the lid in order for the steam to condense and drop into the bowl. Bring the water to a boil and reduce to lowest heat that allows the water to continue to simmer. Keep replacing the ice as it melts and continue to simmer for about 30 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to completely cool. Make sure when lifting lid that none of your ice water falls into the pot. Now pour the rosewater that has collected in the bowl into your dark bottle.
By keeping it in a dark bottle it can last up to 3-4 months at room temperature and longer if kept in the fridge. I like to keep 4 oz. dark blue bottles on hand since I am always making my own homemade items with natural ingredients and essential oils. I distinguish them by the pretty labels that I make for each and write the date that I made them on the bottom of the label.
